New York City Church Planting Module!

The Bible reveals that the Church began in a city—Jerusalem, with Jewish believers as its first members.  In less than a century, some of these very people were instrumental in churches springing up in major cities all over the Roman Empire.

Today, most fundamental churches are vacating the city and fleeing to the suburbs at a time when the urban need is greatest.  Drugs, gangs and violence are threatening the most vulnerable populations in our nation, and sin and Satan run rampant in these major population centers.  Those who remain, along with the others pouring into the city, are usually left without adequate testimony of the saving, life-transforming, power of Jesus the Messiah.  We must reach out to both Jew and Gentile peoples using Divinely-approved methodology, and we must multiply our efforts as we move through the 21st century.  For this reason Bethel Baptist Fellowship and Shalom Ministries Inc., both Brooklyn-based ministries, have teamed up to offer a unique summer opportunity for students interested in taking the Gospel to the Jew and to the world right here in the great City of New York.

Beginning in the year 2003, as part of the summer internship program run by these ministries, a special module for church planters will be offered.  In addition to the regularly scheduled activities, such as two full months of street evangelism, visitation, classroom instruction and exposure to all aspects of an urban ministry, church planting candidates will spend two full days each week with Pastor Jim Bickel to focus specifically on church planting issues.  Further, Pastor Bickel will also be directing a number of exciting activities over the course of the internship that are specifically geared toward church planting, including meetings with, and assistance to, other church planters in the city.  Pastor Bickel is a Bob Jones graduate who is now involved with his second church plant.  God has blessed his ministry in exciting ways and he is uniquely qualified to provide the necessary guidance to future church planters.  He, along with Craig Hartman, the Director of Shalom Ministries Inc., has developed a program that would benefit any future servants of the Lord.
